STATEMENT OF FAITH

The following represents the core beliefs of Mountainview Church and the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches (FEB).

The Scriptures

We believe that the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, as originally given through the divine inspiration of God, is entirely trustworthy and constitutes the only supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice. (Matthew 24:35 // II Timothy 3:16, 17 // II Peter 1:21 // Revelation 22:18, 19)

God

We believe in the existence of one (and only one) living and true GOD, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth, inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and the only one worthy of our honour, adoration, allegiance, love, and worship. (Genesis 1:1, 26 // Deuteronomy 6:4 // John 4:24 // Isaiah 6:3 // Revelation 5:13)

Trinity

We believe that the Godhead exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and that these are the same in essence and equal in attributes with the Godhead, yet each execute distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. (Isaiah 9:6 // John 1:1-4 // John 10:30 // Acts 5:3,4 // Colossians 2:9)

Jesus Christ

We believe in the virgin birth and the absolute deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His sinless life and His sacrificial, substitutionary death on the cross of Calvary. We also believe in His literal bodily resurrection, His ascension to heaven, His intercession for all believers and His coming again. (Matthew 1:18-25 // Luke 24:39 // John 14:1-3 // Acts 1:10 // 1Corinthians 15:51,52 // Revelation 20:6)

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the absolute deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the trinity, Who convinces sinners of sin, righteousness and judgment and Who regenerates, sanctifies and empowers those who believe in Christ. (John 14:16,17 // John 16:7-14 // Acts 1:8 // Romans 8:11)

Man

We believe the first man (Adam) was created by God in His image; man sinned and became guilty before God, resulting in total universal depravity of mankind and subject to physical and spiritual death. (Genesis 1:26 // Psalms 14:1-3 // Jeremiah 17:9 // Romans 5:12-19 // Ephesians 2:1)

Salvation

  • Regeneration: We believe that salvation is by the sovereign, electing grace of God that Jesus Christ, by appointment of the Father, voluntarily gave His life on the cross to satisfy the justice of God, and that sinners are justified by faith alone in the finished work of the Saviour and not by any of their own works. (Acts 4:12 // Ephesians 2:8,9 // Hebrews 10:1-14 // I Peter 1:18, 19)
  • Assurance: We believe in the eternal security of all those who have been born-again by the Spirit of God through faith in Christ and that it is the privilege of all such to be assured of their present and eternal safety. (John 10:28, 29 // Romans 8:33-39 // Philippians 1:6 // II Timothy 1:12)
  • Sanctification: We believe that those who have been born-again by the Spirit of God are sanctified by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ and they will, through faithful reading of the Word of God, prayer, and following the leading of the Holy Spirit, become conformed to the image of Christ. (John 17:17-19 // Romans 8:28, 29 // Hebrews 10:10; 13:12 // I John 1:7-9)

Spiritual Gifts

We believe that all who truly are born-again receive spiritual gifts administered by the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ in the building of His church. We further believe that the Holy Spirit is sovereign in the bestowing of His gifts and that there is not any one specific gift which needs to be sought as a sign of spiritual maturity or filling of the Spirit. (Romans 12:3-8 // I Corinthians 12 // I Corinthians 14 // Hebrews 2:3,4)

Ordinances

We believe in the following ordinances of the church as given to us through Holy Scripture:

  • Baptism by immersion in obedience to our Lord’s command and as a testimony to our identification with Him in His death, burial and resurrection. (Matthew 28:19,20 // John 3:23 // Acts 8:38)
  • Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper given to believing disciples as a memorial of His sacrificial death and the new covenant in Christ’s blood as denoted by the elements of bread and wine. (Luke 22:19,20 // I Corinthians 11:23-26)

Resurrection

We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead in bodily form and that upon His return He will raise from the dead those who have died in Christ and after the millennium those who have died in unbelief. (I Corinthians 15:4-8, 51-54 // I Thessalonians 4:16 // Revelation 20:12-15)

Judgment

We believe that believers will be judged at the judgment seat of Christ according to what they have done for the Lord and that the unbelievers will be judged at the Great White Throne judgment according to what they have done with the Lord’s offer of salvation. (I Corinthians 3:11-14 ; 5:10 // II Peter 2:9 // Revelation 20:11-15)

Heaven and Hell

  • We believe in Heaven, an indescribable place of beauty and holiness, where God dwells with His angels and where the believers will live for eternity with their Saviour.
  • We believe that Hell is a place of eternal separation from God and is prepared for the devil and his angels and all those who have not received God‘s salvation. (Daniel 12:2 // Luke 15:22,23 / / John 14:1-3 // Revelation 20:10; 21:8)

Satan

We believe that Satan exists as an evil personality, the originator of sin and the archenemy of God and man. (Genesis 3:15 // Job 1:6-12 // Matthew 4:1-10 // John 8:44 // Ephesians 6:11,12)

Does Mountainview Church follow the Bible?

"After reviewing Mountainview's church website in regard to their theological foundations (statement of faith), it definitely passes as 100% biblical, through-and-through. They seem like a very biblically sound church."
